Meet the Team
Health Works would like to welcome you to our team.
Manager: Tim Woolliscroft
Hi, I’m Tim and my role at Health Works includes coordinating overall strategic development, developing new projects, building partnerships and fundraising. My past experience includes working for Swamp Circus Trust. as Development Officer and Managing Director. In these capacities I moved the company into new realms developing innovative circus projects. I have applied some of this creative thinking to my approach with Health Works.
My understanding of community engagement includes direct grass roots experience of delivering circus workshops in inner city areas of Sheffield, Rotherham, Liverpool, Bristol and Tyneside. This is combined with an academic and policy background that includes a BA Hons in Urban Planning, an MA in Sociology and Social Policy and practical experience as a community sector rep on Sheffield’s Culture Board.
I have also delivered business development mentoring for Business link and event management consultancy for Arts Council England. I am also the business link social enterprise case study on their website and a leadership case study on the Guardian Public website.
In the past I has travelled the world as a professional circus theatre performer and set up a circus theatre tour to refugee camps in Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia. You may also have walked past a life sized picture of me on a unicycle, part of a photo mural opposite Sheffield Station.

Volunteer Co ordinator : Michelle Smedley
Hi I’m Michelle Smedley and I have been involved in Health Works since 2008.I first started as a volunteer and set up different activities eg – swim and gym, health walks, 1 to 1 buddying and tutor buddying…
Through volunteering I gained more confidence in myself and have a good understanding of community needs. I gained more skills and even have an A level in Health Trainer level 3, which I never had when I left school. My progression has grown so much that I gained employment at Health Works.
My Role at Health Works is a Volunteer Co ordinator and I work citywide throughout Sheffield. I work with the PHITS team to develop youth activities, citywide PHITS and a homeless project, (which I would like the volunteers to rename.) I work with volunteers from the age of 14 +.
Myself and the project manager have found some free volunteer management level 3 training (Diploma) This will up date my skills further around working with volunteers.
The training I have done since being in my job role is;
- Attracting and keeping volunteers
- Organising your volunteer programme
- Marketing
- Fundraising and working with other organisations
- Working relationships
- Aligning volunteer contribution
- Team leading
- Developing volunteer projects
- Sustainability & Exit strategies
